We all get a little more sentimental during the holidays, don’t we? This happens to me every year. Amidst the hustle and bustle of trying to grade projects and get kids to do corrections, I can’t help but be reminded of how great O.Henry is. I was driving home yesterday when the song “Home” by Philip Phillips came on. I love this song, and so I was singing along, like usual. For some reason, though, I was struck by the lyrics:
Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home
Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home
I was singing these lyrics thinking about O.Henry. This place is my home, and I hope it’s yours. Even though bad things happen out there in the world, I want to do anything I can to make you feel at home in my classroom and at O.Henry. I’m happy to call O.Henry my home, and I hope you are as well.
Happy Holidays, everyone!
